The present work is being carried out within the SIAM (Spectroscopy & Atomic Imaging of Materials) team at Cadi Ayyad University. It consists in studying the luminescence of samples of Ni, Cr, Ti and the oxides NiO and Cr2O3, using the SIPS technique. The targets are bombarded with 5 keV Kr+ ions at an angle of 65° to the normal, and the spectral range explored extends from the near-UV to the visible. The studies we have carried out can be summarized as follows: * Demonstration of optical emissions from the sputtered products of three metals: nickel, chromium and titanium and their oxides, bombarded under vacuum (better than 10-7 torr). * Interpretation of the effect of oxygen on luminescence spectra. * Examination and application of the electron exchange model. Estimation of the electronic affinity and band gap of oxides.
