Hi-fi sound from compact Wharfedale Heritage bookshelf speakers I've always adored Wharfedale's vintage-styled speaker offerings. The latest entry in the company's acclaimed Heritage line is the Super Denton. These compact bookshelf speakers take inspiration from Wharfedale's Denton 3 speakers from the early 1970s, sporting modern drivers, crossovers, and cabinet design for big sound and a small footprint. A 3-way driver design with "family history" The Super Dentons use a three-way driver configuration with dedicated drivers for the treble, midrange, and bass. It's a performance-focused design choice that's unusual to see in speakers so compact - same as the Denton 3s from over 50 years ago. Each speaker uses a 1" soft dome tweeter coupled with a 2" soft dome midrange for natural, lightning-quick highs and articulate mids. These two drivers are offset from one another to reduce sound-muddying diffraction, and each is placed in its own anti-resonant rear chamber. A cast-chassis 6-1/2" woofer delivers surprisingly deep, robust bass. Sound doesn't stop at drivers Cabinet design plays a huge part in the sound of any speakers. Wharfedale braced and damped the inside of the Super Dentons with long-hair fiber to keep the inside quiet. Different woods are used throughout the cabinet to prevent a single resonant frequency from standing out. Even the glue that holds the MDF and particle board panels together has resonance-damping properties. It all adds up to a cabinet that gets out of the way so your music can shine through. Got wire?
