19th Century Indonesian Avalokitesvara Provenance : Ex-Private Javanese Collection, collected in Central Java, Indonesia This unique Indonesian style Avalokiteshvara statue depicts the Bodhisattva bare chested, standing on a circular double lotus base with his left arm holding a stem of uptala flower. His right held out in Vitakra Mudra of teaching, a gesture of discussion & debate which indicates communication & an explanation of the Dharma. Avalokitesvara wears beautiful ornaments & a detailed crown with the Amitabha Buddha on the front of it as well as surrounded by an ornate arch that spiral out from his shoulders. The piece has a beautiful antique deep black oxidation on the surface & the bronze is thick & high quality.
