A beautiful Maitland Smith Chinese porcelain vase. Very nice quality, exquisitely hand painted polychrome decoration in Asian floral & fauna motif, slip painted, with whimsical butterflies & peony flowers (a symbol of feminine beauty) embellishments on a rich, warm red ground adorn the porcelain vessel. The body was hand-crafted in Taiwan, then sent to Hong Kong to be hand painted & re-fired. Makers tag Maitland Smith affixed verso. Paul Maitland Smith has been well-known & respected in the home furnishings industry since 1957, when he earned a solid reputation as a London-based antiques dealer & purveyor of reproduction furniture. He founded Maitland-Smith in 1979 after he had emigrated to Hong Kong & began manufacturing reproduction 18th century furniture & decorative accessories, sourcing product from Hong Kong, Thailand, China, & the Philippines. Over time, he sold that company & founded Paul Maitland International, which manufactures occasional furniture & home accents. in 1996, his entrepreneurial spirit led to a new division, Theodore Alexander. Dimensions (approx) 15"h x 6"d Excellent vintage condition. May have typical expected signs of use including minor imperfections to the glazed finish.
