Handcrafted Black Textured Ceramic Vase "Hasard 01"

Handcrafted black textured ceramic vase. Brown stoneware chamotte, black enamel. Dimensions: h 18 cm x d 19 cm. Unique piece, handmade in Paris. This vase inaugurates the "Hasard" series. These vases are variations on the same shape: at once light, as if suspended by its slender foot, & heavy by its spherical form, plump & comforting. The shape, iterated, is the constraint. The idea is to develop textures & motifs, to work with different earths & colors, to develop them ad infinitum, while maintaining coherence & harmony. From constraint comes freedom. The name of the series refers to a theme that's dear to me: chance. & in its recurrence. Here, chance lies in the gesture: although the form is intended to be identical, in reality it is never really the same. The hand guides differently, the clay expresses itself as it wishes. For this "Hasard no1" vase, I chose a chamotte red clay that I hollowed out in dotted lines. I then glazed it in a glossy black. The vase can hold fresh flowers or simply stand on its own. "Hasard" vases are both utilitarian & decorative objects, but also, as unique pieces forming part of a whole, collectable art objects.
