Black Speckled Ceramic Vase From Accolay Potters, Vintage Boho & Brutalist Style

This large vase with a wide neck is a production of the potters of Accolay. The enamel work is particular, on a deep black background, the upper part of the vase is partially covered with a cloudy celadon blue green. The shape of the vase is massive & compact, slightly ringed. The whole is particularly decorative. The vase is of very beautiful craftsmanship. The enameling is nuanced & thick. It is signed Accolay with a stylus on the reverse. The Accolay vase is in very good condition. 8 to 13cm in diameter, 17cm in height. in the middle of the 20th century, Accolay was the setting for a real revolution in ceramics. Four former students of Alexandre Kostanda settled in the small village in Yonne in the mid-1940s, & many potters followed their example. For around forty years, the production of the Accolay potters was impressive, original & daring, characterized by thick, often speckled glazes & crazy creativity.
