A pair of large beautiful vintage solid brass candlesticks featuring the Lions of Judah. They are heavy with 5 branches & lots of detail. The Lion of Judah is the symbol of the Jewish tribe of Judah. According to the Torah, the tribe consists of the descendants of Judah, the fourth son of Jacob. The association between Judah & the lion, most likely the Asiatic lion, can first be found in the blessing given by Jacob to Judah in the Book of Genesis. The Lion of Judah is also mentioned in the Book of Revelation, as a term representing Jesus, according to Christian theology. I think they were made in Europe in 1960's or earlier. They are designed like those often left behind in Poland in the early 1900's. The lions on this candelabra are carved & scribed on the front & back. The candle holder cups & bobeches are threaded with turned screws & can unscrew for easy cleaning. The arms & framework are also detachable from the slightly domed base. With the clear visibility of the figures front & back, the subtle patina & the wonderfully detailed lions, these candelabras will make a stunning centerpiece at a holiday table.
