Ancient Greek Sphinx Mythical Creature Bronze Statue, Greek Mythology Monsters, Metal Greek Art Sculpture, Home Art Decor Cast in solid bronze with verdigris patina & freestanding on a black marble base in Greek mythology, the enigmatic Sphinx had the face of a woman, the body of a lion, & the wings of a great bird, & was the symbol of mystery & the guardian of sacred places. She was sitting outside of Thebes & asked her famous riddle of all travelers who passed by : "What goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, & on three legs in the evening?" Those who cannot answer her riddle are killed & eaten by this ravenous monster. An inspired replica of the original museum exhibit at Olympia, Greece, 6th century BC.
