Vintage Syroco Scottie Dog Bookends - Perfect Lover Gift

Oh my! These vintage Syroco Scottie dog book ends will proudly guard your books - what a watchful eye he has! These would be a fun gift for a dog lover, or the perfect touch for the room of a child who loves to read (must love dogs)! Each bookend measures about 5 1/2" wide by 6 1/2" tall by 3 3/4" deep. Good vintage condition, with some missing paint/stain on the back, as shown. The plate that slides under the books is metal. You will receive the pair. The Syroco (Syracuse Ornamental Company) was founded in 1890 & was known for their decorative carved wood products, including mantle pieces & other architectural ornamentation popular in Victorian homes. To meet demand, they developed a material that looked & felt like wood but that which could be shaped, allowing multiple pieces to be produced through a molding process. The new product, which combined wood pulp brought from the Adirondacks with flour as a binder & other materials to give it strength, was extruded & then cut to fit compression molds, which were made from original carvings in real wood.
