For your consideration, I am offering this exquisite, antique, Parian salt glaze Jug / Ewer / Pitcher with molded relief biblical design of "Naomi & Her Daughter - in - Laws"...Made in the mid-1800's by the Samuel Alcock & Co. located in Burslem, England.. The white parian Jug / Ewer has a double scene embellished in a soft lavender color with decorated scrolls on the rim & handle in lavender....Jug in white Parian with lavender glaze background, with relief-moulded figures of Naomi & her daughters-in-law. Figures probably taken from a painting by Henry Nelson O'Neill. Stands 11 inches tall at the spout area, & a scalloped 5 3/8 inches base rim diameter... Back stamp in black states the manufactured stamp, with Patent below & with the title to this parian ewer & 15b..Plus the manufactured date mark the ewer was made is April 27, 1847.. Please view the indoor & outdoor pictures to show all angles & details on this piece... Light signs of previous use, ownership & vintage age needs to be taken into consideration - flawless pre-owned condition, free of chips, fleabites, crazing or any type or restoration, some staining on the white exterior...Any imperfections seem to be craft related. Facts on Samuel Alcock Samuel Alcock (1799-1848) was a leading pottery manufacturer based in Burslem, Staffordshire in the mid 19th century...Samuel (also spelled Samual in some contemporary references), born in Kingsley, Staffordshire, was the youngest of the nine children of Thomas (1746-1816) & Catherine Alcock (1756-1838)..Though from a farming background, he developed an interest in commerce after working with his uncle Joseph Locker, a grocer, tea dealer, provision dealer, chandler & banker of the Market Square, Hanley. His introduction to pottery came when he embarked upon a partnership with Ralph Stevenson of Cobridge, Staffordshire..In 1828, Alcock developed his own business & began work on the Hill Top site in Cobridge. in 1839 he completed work on a large factory, built in the Venetian style, on the junction of Westport Road & Greenhead Street..On November 10, 1848 Samuel Alcock died & his works closed around 1859. Samuel was married to Elizabeth & had eleven children.The company became a manufacturer of porcelain, parian & earthenware at Cobridge & Burslem, Staffordshire, England from c1828-1859...
