This super cool specimen contains blue fluoreapatite & albite var cleavelandite. This material fluoresces yellow under shortwave UV light (SW 254nm) light & under a midwave (MW 310-4nm) UV light. The brightest fluorescence can be seen under a MIDWAVE UV light! You will need a filtered Midwave (MW) or a Shortwave (SW) UV light in order to see the fluorescence shown in the pictures. Regular black lights will usually not show fluorescence at all Please keep in mind that the higher the UV light's wattage is, the brighter the fluorescent reaction will be Weight: 1.155 lb (524 g) Size: 4" x 3" x 2" Origin: Swanson Quarry, East Hampton, Connecticut. This specimen was photographed using a Engineous Designs midwave UV flashlight, a UVTools 36 watt Shortwave UV light, & a Convoy s2+ Longwave UV flashlight. The pictures have not been retouched. Shortwave lamps have a range of 200-280 nm. (254 nm are recommended) Midwave lights have a spectrum of 280-315 nm & are also called UVA. (310-314 nm are recommended) Longwave lights have a spectrum of 315-400 nm & are also called UVA.
