Extremely rare complete moss "plant" or colony preserved in Stalactite Flow Stone. THIS IS TRUE FOSSIL MOSS (NOT PLUME OR MOSS "AGATE") in CARBONATE fLOWSTONE. Right down to the cellular level. The preservation of many fossil types has been well documented in travertine flow stone. This includes almost everything imaginable from algae through vascular plants to vertebrates, Years ago we received a large stalactite type travertine that had encrusted & preserved a huge aquatic moss colony. Preservation is remarkable right down to the cellular level. The genus of this aquatic moss appears to be Cratoneurum sp. similar to many sites documented in Croatia & also the Barstow Fm. The moss is Middle Miocene, Barstow Formation, San Bernardino Co., California. the polished surface is approx. 3 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches . This is simply a remarkable example of a very unique form of fossilization. Very unique display. This is on of the largest slice that we were able to produce. Biogenic travertine has been noted to contain numerous types of fossils including cave bear, lion & hyena, various plants, salamanders, many mammals & even humans from many sites around the world. This is truly a one time chance to obtain a remarkable & delicate fossil entombed in a unique cave deposit. Slice is 3/8 inch thick & weighs 15.4 oz.
