Ordered by President Washington, It is the first time a government militia was used to put down a domestic uprising in the United States & ultimately resulted in two civilian casualties. While the rebellion was successfully put down, the wildly unpopular tax was eventually repealed by Thomas Jefferson a decade later. The flag was used briefly during the rebellion, but its actual origins are unknown. The flag features an eagle, one of the most synonymous American symbols, as well as thirteen six pointed stars, representing the 13 states.
