Bob Mackie Dress/1980S Sequined Velvet & Silk Taffeta Ball Gown Designer Vintage Size Small Medium

This outrageous dress from the 1980's is from famed designer, Bob Mackie. This was actually worn, in its day, to the Inaugural Ball for former president, George H. W. Bush! Features a bodice of supple rayon velvet, with long sleeves which almost sit off the shoulder, & zip at the cuffs. The plunging v-neckline is elaborately covered with a fabulous, colorful bouquet of jewel toned flowers depicted in sequins & beading. This sits atop a backing of tan mesh, & the entire bodice is lined in black taffeta. The magnificent skirt is made from volumes of gorgeous violet colored silk taffeta, with a beautiful surface shimmer. There is a built-in black tulle petticoat which has a separate hook-and-eye closure, & comprises three separate layers. The back of the skirt is wonderfully gathered, giving an almost bustle-like effect due to the built in petticoat. A wonderful nod to the 1940's in its styling! Back metal zipper.
