Antique Victorian Trained Bustle Dress 1870s - Beaded Silk Brocade Formal Gown This is an attractive patterned brocade bustled reception gown of the 1870's period, that a mid to upper class woman would wear. A lavish designed long flowing back sweep gathered into a bustle effect rear skirting in full bustle fashion attached to bodice. The rear puff enhances the outfit nicely. A regal 2 piece formal gown constructed in dark salmon & golden brown tan woven with stripes & plume veining, brocaded with a feather plume shapes repeat. Inner skirt is a light brown/ecru satin. This 19th century gown recently de-accessioned from a museum collection in New York state. The gown still retains it's original Museum ID catalog identification tag, inside waist band of skirt. On the petersham are remnant of where a label was sewn, it did not come with the gown. Rounded bodice in front & pointed in back, having dangly beaded glass tassels on lace sleeves & on neckline. White floral lace over sleeves ending with lace cuffs. Having 11 fabric covered stays in bodice. Off white polished cotton lining. Front bodice has hook & eye closure & fabric covered buttons with beads, that extends from the chest area to waist area & all present. One button is loose & pin is holding it together. The trained cutaway skirt is attached to bodice back & front place panel is decorated with dangly beaded tassels sewn on floral lace front panel. Skirt has a hook & eye closure in back. A flounce of white gauze & valennciences lace material at inner dust hem lining. Front hem lining has a triple layer of gathered pleated satin. The gown is mostly hand stitched & some machine stitching. CONDITION BODICE: There is no underarm discoloration. Inner lining at underarm is splitting & has detached from bodice. As shown in photo. Lace on sleeves are splitting around arm pits & shoulders. One button needs to be attached. Some missing beads around neck line & on sleeves. SKIRT: I find only a few problems with the skirt. Waist gathering as come apart in places & needs to be attached. Lining is in good shape. Rips & shredding on front panel satin skirt. One large 16" rip on brocade train. Skirt has separated in some small areas from waist band, an easy fix. A little roughness at hem line & lining separation. Museum has added a white waistband, with loops.
