Colonial Era Split Front Dress Cotton Floral 18Th Century Gown

Custom made Colonial Split Front Dress in a floral cotton fabric. This is an 18th century dress designed with the modern woman in mind. The design is perfectly period correct but the bodice & over skirt are attached to make it easy & comfortable to wear. During Colonial America a dress showed a woman's flair. This is a modern interpretation of the Day dress of the time. It is a two piece dress (overdress & skirt) which makes it very easy to wear as well as flattering. There are 2 pieces to this lovely outfit, a bodice & overskirt (1 piece) & an underskirt (1 piece). Fun & very flattering design. I have drafted this pattern with a joined bodice & overskirt to be worn with a drawstring underskirt. The underskirt can be any color but should compliment it. This design gives the dress a period correct look but an ease of wear for the modern woman. With the bodice & overskirt joined there is no worries of hook & eyes coming undone. Made from a lightweight quilters cotton in a lovely floral print. Your choices of prints are in the last picture of the listing. I can make this dress in a solid color if you prefer that. Any solid color is available. Just email me when ordering & let me know what color you would like. Bodice is completely lined with a lightweight cotton, including the sleeves, & the main bodice part is inner lined with a cotton canvas or cotton twill. I do the inner lining to help give the bodice a more structured look & a more period correct look. It gives the dress a less "costumey" look without the structure of actual boning. The bodice has a square neckline which is very flattering on any body shape. It closes in the back with metal grommets & a cord tie. Sleeves are 3/4 length & have a lovely ruffle of lace at the elbow. I can do a solid white cotton ruffle if you prefer that over lace. Just email & I will make a note on the order. The waist of the bodice dips down into a "V" in the front making it look like a separate bodice & overskirt. The back of the bodice is straight across the waist. Bodice is attached to the skirt at the waist. The yardage on the skirt is gathered into the waist which gives you lots of width & flow to the skirt. The skirt is full but you can wear 1 or more petticoats underneath to make it more full. Skirt is unlined serged to finish. The underskirt is made from a lightweight cotton fabric & has a drawstring closure. You can have any color you would like for the underskirt. Just mention the color when you order.
