Original etching in its first state ( Hind 109-I) of the temple of saturn with a corner of the arch of Septimius Severus in the foreground. Signed below left, Cavaliere Piranesi.This first state printed in 1774 just four years before the death of Piranesi ( 1720-1778). The etching represents with touches of chiaroscuro and dramatic effects with strong imprint os superb quality. Piranesi is considered the most important engraver at Rome during the XVIII century. Piranesi illustrated antiquities,monuments and archeological remains either in Rome and other parts of Italy.
