Terzo stato su tre, quinta variante su sette (Meder 197 III/III - e/g), dopo lersquo;edizione con il testo latino del 1511. Piccolissimo margine oltre la linea marginale, sempre presente, rifilata in pochi punti. Esemplare in buono stato di conservazione dalla vivida inchiostratura; abilissimi restauri integrativi al centro del manto della vergine e allersquo;ultimo gradino in basso a fianco del monogramma, altro piccolo restauro integrativo al centro del bordo superiore e ai quattro angoli. STRAUSS 75 - Molti dettagli di questo foglio - il muro di pietra incompleto, il gruppo di angeli nel cielo, la minuscola scena dellersquo;Annunciazione sullo sfondo - sono stati ripresi dallersquo;incisione di Schongauerehellip; Ma Dürer ha anche aggiunto dettagli personali: la corna - musa del pastore, i sandali con i tacchi alti di San Giuseppe, lersquo;alto tetto di paglia in com - pleto stato di abbandono, ma soprattutto le rigide linee prospettiche che convergono in un punto molto vicino al margine del foglio e che racchiudono tutti i tratti con la sola e inspiegabile eccezione della figura di Giuseppe e delle scale dietro di lui. Sebbene il cielo sia illuminato dalla Stella di Betlemme, egli porta la sua tradizionale lanterna. Il volto della Vergine è molto simile a quello della Visitazione. STRAUSS 75 - So many details of this sheet - the incomplete stone wall, the group of angels in the sky, the tiny Annunciation scene in the background - have been taken over from Schongauerersquo;s engravingehellip; But Dürer has also added details of his own: the shepherdersquo;s bagpipes, the high-heeled sandals of St. Joseph, the high, thatched roof in utter disrepair, but most of all, the rigid lines of perspective which converge at a point very close to the margin of the sheet and which encompass all features with the sole and inexplicable excep - tion of the figure of Joseph and the stairs behind him. Although the sky is brightened by the Star of Bethlehem, he carries his traditional lantern. The Virginersquo;s face is much like that in The Visitation. The rocky ledges in the background on the left defy explanation.
