Title within historiated woodcut border with mythological scenes, woodcut arms of the translator Henry Lyte on verso, woodcut portrait of Dodoens holding a flower, 870 woodcuts in the text, colophon with printer's woodcut device, with loss to most of the margins and pasted to last blank page, pages: [24], 1-779, [11], slight mispagination, 356-359, and numbers 360-361 duplicated, no duplication of text, old calf covers, rebacked in lighter calf, gilt lettered title to spine and gilt date at foot between raised bands, tiny armorial bookplate on first pastedown (Matilda Ellen Slade). Old calf boards worn, scuffed and shelf wear to edges, pale staining to first free endpaper, margins of title page missing and replaced with old paper, no loss to image, slight pinhole worming on title page, slight creasing on same affecting some text and date, repairs to top and bottom corners of following page, Dedication leaf to The Most High, Noble and Renowned Princesse, Queene Elizabeth, damaged with loss, only top portion remaining, a facsimile leaf inserted, pale damp staining affecting all prelims and portrait, outer margin of portrait repaired, no loss to image, 12 pages have marginal repairs, none affecting text, minor worming to lower margins up to page 215, and pinhole worming to some text up to the same page, Te Deum written in old brown ink on verso last blank page, many corners slightly dusty, some minor repairs to margins at rear, small stains and occasional small ink notes to margins, occasional small pale patches of damp staining.
