First edition of this eyewitness history. Fawcett begins her account with Mary Wollstonecraft's Vindication of the Rights of Women (1792) and traces the campaign through to the most recent international developments. For Fawcett, the year 1912 shows considerable grounds for optimism: "Everything points to the growing volume and force of the women's movement. Even if victory should be delayed, it cannot be delayed long" (p. 83). Small octavo. Publisher's advertisement at rear dated February 1912. Original green cloth, spine lettered in black, front cover lettered and blocked in black. Contemporary signature of one Dick Childs to front free endpaper, possibly the American ballot reformer Richard Spencer Childs (1882-1978). Spine cocked and slightly toned, ends and corners bumped with minor wear, endpapers and edges a little foxed, top edge soiled, content clean: a very good copy.
