The second published work by Elleanor Eldrige, published in order to raise money for her efforts to reclaim her property in Providence, Rhode Island. The book begins with an abridged version of her first book, and is then followed by the short stories: "The Exchange of Fortunes," "The Lame Boy," "Forgiveness," and "Gratitude." Eldridge was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, in 1785. Her father had gained his freedom after fighting in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Her maternal grandmother was Narragansett. After acquiring a house and land, she nearly lost it due to being swindled, and raised money to repurchase it by selling copies of her first book in locations from Boston to Philadelphia. She published the second book in a continued effort to raise money. We find no other copies of the first edition on the market at the time of listing. American Imprints 56969. First signature stained, leaves foxed good plus overall. 12mo, original cloth backed boards, remnants of paper spine label
