Silografia impressa su carta vergellata, tracce parziali di filigrana con corona (Meder 259?) testo latino al verso per lersquo;edizione del 1511. Monogramma su tavoletta allersquo;angolo inferiore sinistro. Secondo stato su quattro, prima variante su due, (Meder 135 II/V - a/b). Rifilata al bordolinea, sempre presente anche se in parte sottilissimo. Esemplare in ottimo stato di conservazione, dallersquo;inchiostratura molto forte e nitida; due minuscole grinze da stampa in alto nella parte centrale visibili al recto; al verso, lievi tracce di collatura e abrasione allersquo;angolo superiore destro. Accompagnata da cartoncino con timbro elsquo;collezioni T.G. Ritter - Milanoersquo; STRAUSS 142 - rispetto alla versione scartata di questo soggetto, questa silografia è stata elogiata per la resa realistica dellersquo;atteggiamento orante di Cristo e dei discepoli addormentati: sembrano realmente addormentati, non semplicemente con gli occhi chiusi. Wölffin la definì la più perfetta della serie. Come nellersquo;Annunciazione e nella Natività, le figure occupano lersquo;intera superficie pittorica, escludendo elementi architettonici o un ampio paesaggio. Solo sullo sfondo in lontananza i soldati romani stanno entrando dal cancello del giardino. G. collection stamp Ritter -Milanersquo; STRAUSS 142 - compared to the discarded version of this subject, this woodcut has been praised for the realistic rendering of the prayerful attitude of Christ and the sleeping disciples-they appear to be actually asleep, not merely with their eyes closed. Wölfflin called it the most perfect of the series. As in the Annunciation and the Nativity, the figures take up the entire picture area to the exclusion of architectural elements or a large landscape. Only in the distant background the Roman soldiers are entering the garden gate.
