First edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author to his biographer and bibliographer, David A. Jasen, "To David from Plum, P. G. Wodehouse", to the front free endpaper. The story was later adapted for the stage by Wodehouse and Guy Bolton, and titled The Inside Stand (1935). David A. Jasen (1937-2022), ragtime scholar, performer, and a leading Wodehouse authority, shared a passion for music with the prolific humourist who was also famed during his lifetime as a musical lyricist. Jasen acknowledged that only Wodehouse's close friends and family knew him as "Plum", and his personal bond with the author was immortalized when Jasen became the dedicatee of Stiff Upper Lip, Jeeves (1963). Jasen 48; McIlvaine A47b. Octavo. Illustrations throughout by Rea Irvin. Original black cloth, spine and front cover lettered in red, front cover decorated in red, top edge red, others untrimmed. Stamp of USS Patoka on front pastedown. Spine a little toned, ends bumped, wear to corners, light rubbing and marks to cloth, abrasions and residue on rear pastedown from removed label. A very good copy.
