Beautiful chromolithographic trade broadside, 8-1/4" x 10-1/2." Printed in red, green and gilt, the text enclosed within a triple-rule red and green border, with green corner ornaments and a large, green ornament above the title. The imprint is in the lower margin, in green. Minor dusting, blank lower corner crease. Very Good plus. Forrest's reputation as a brilliant Confederate Cavalry General was tarnished by his troops' massacre of colored Union troops at Fort Pillow. Before the War, he was a successful dealer in slaves. Memphis city directories prominently noted his success in that industry. After the War, Slavery having been abolished, Forrest tried his hand at insurance, becoming President of the Planters Insurance Company of Tennessee. "On the 10th day of December, 1866, the Planters' Insurance Company was incorporated, and thereafter it conducted a general fire insurance business in the City of Memphis up to the year 1885." [Planters Ins. Co. v. Tennessee, 161 U.S. 193, 194. 1896.]. He also became the first Grand Wizard of the newly founded Ku Klux Klan. Not located on OCLC, or in Allen, Hummel, or anywhere else as of September 2025.
