Map. Uncolored lithograph. Sheet measures 24 3/4" x 16 1/4" This elegant map of New York city covers the Island of Manhattan from the Battery north as far as 86th St. with an inset in the top left featuring the northern portion of Manhattan. Part of Brooklyn is also included. The map identifies streets, parks, squares, piers, ferry lines, forts, etc. Lower Manhattan, which was more populated than the northern portions at the time, reveals far mode detail with blocks shaded in and important buildings identified. Central Park, which was not proposed until years later, is not depicted. The map, as laid out by the Commissioners has been altered and arranged to changes in 1828 and published by Andrew T. Goodrich and engraved by J. F. Morin. Issued as part of "The Picture of New-York and Stranger's Guide to the Commercial Metropolis of the United States". The map is in very good condition. Left and bottom margins are cropped to edge, as issued. Hard to find. Comes with the original Stranger's Guide book, in poor condition.
