Real Photo Post Card of HBCU West Virginia Collegiate Institute Football Team. Circa 1925 Photography

Gelatin silver photograph. Image size approximately 5" x 3½". Bottom corners a little nicked, small black paper remnants on verso from being removed from an album, overall very good. Image depicts 15 seated football players in apparently game-used full uniforms, and three coaches in suits. Placed in the bottom center of the image is a board displaying the results of their first four games, all against HBCUs: West Virginia was until that point undefeated and unscored upon (although Howard University managed to battle them to a 0-0 tie). Less lucky were the scoreless Virginia Seminary, Virginia Normal, and Wilberforce. The college, now know as West Virginia State University, operated as West Virginia Collegiate Institute between 1915-1929. They participated in intercollegiate football around 1921.
