Includes letter to Warren Burger from William Barnabas McHenry, general counsel for The Reader's Digest Association, Inc., describing the origin and binding of this trial edition. LG Consignment. Shelved case 1 1/2. Second Story Books is honored to present the following item as part of the estate of Warren E. Burger (1907-1995). Burger served as the 15th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1969-1986. Not in OCLC. Per McHenry's letter: "In 1920 DeWitt Wallace published a trial edition of Reader's Digest. He was then living in St. Paul, and he used the edition to try to interest publisher's in St. Paul and others in the magazine. As you know, this didn't work and he moved to New York where he published the first issue in February, 1922. As an executor of the estate, I have been collecting his papers together and I came across a few copies of this trial edition, which I have had bound.
