FRANCETI?, Petar, provincial (Rijeka, o. 1645 Trsat, 13. VII. 1725). He acquired the basics of literacy from the Jesuits in his hometown, where he then attended high school. In 1671 he entered the Franciscan Order and became a member of the Province of Bosnia and Croatia, which at that time included monasteries in the western part of Croatia as well as those in central and western Slovenia. He began his theological education at the theological school of the General College in Ljubljana, and continued and graduated in Milan and Rome. He earned the titles of professor of philosophy and theology in Venice and Rome. Upon his return to his homeland, he taught philosophy and, for thirteen years, theology at the seminaries in Trsat and Ljubljana. As a professor, he achieved the highest Franciscan educational title of "lector jubilatus". In his home province, which, however, changed its name to the Croatian-Carniolan Province of the Holy Cross, F. was twice definitor and provincial in the three-year period 1705 08. The Supreme Administration of the Franciscan Order authorized him to make canonical visits to the neighboring provinces of St. Ladislaus in Banska Croatia, the Most Holy Savior in Hungary, St. Leopold in Tyrol and St. Wenceslaus in Bohemia, which he did. From 1689, with interruptions, he was the keeper of the Trsat shrine and the guardian of the monastery for two decades. He renovated the votive church of the Mother of God in Trsat and completely decorated it in Baroque style. With a monetary With the support of the Grobnik captain F. Frankulin, he had the chapel of St. Anthony built in the sanctuary in 1691, and from the foundation of Ana Sorsi-Petrekovi? and the legacy of the Senj bishop S. Glavini?, he erected the marble altars of St. Catherine and St. Michael. With the help of the Senj bishop M. Brajkovi?, in 1705 he separated the main altar from the church nave with a wrought iron fence. The wooden altars in the church were made at that time by Franciscan carvers, and the church and the monastery F. had the dining room decorated with paintings by C. Tasca. He elevated the cult of Our Lady of Trsat to a liturgical celebration, obtaining permission from Pope Clement XI in 1709, according to which the clergy of the Senj diocese and the Franciscans of the Croatian-Carniolan province could celebrate the commemoration of the transfer of Mary's little house to Nazareth on May 10. He obtained crowns and in 1715 organized the coronation of the image of Our Lady of Trsat; it was the first coronation of an image of the Mother of God outside of Italy.
