Newton Clark, his son William, and his grandson Newton Mabee Clark each played significant roles in shaping the history of Oregon and, in their own ways, contributing to the broader story of the United States between 1838 and 1975. Newton Clark, a Civil War veteran and early Oregon pioneer, was instrumental in developing communities in the Columbia River Gorge and lending his name to Mount Hood s famous Newton Clark Glacier, a tribute to his exploration and civic influence in the late 19th century. His son, William Clark, carried on the family legacy through leadership and service that reflected the growing modernization of Oregon in the early 20th century. Newton Mabee Clark, Jr., an engineer, played a noteworthy role in major infrastructure projects of the 1930s and 40s, including work on the Bonneville Dam and Lock, as well as the elevation of the Bridge of the Gods, helping shape the region s economic and transportation development. Combined, the Clarks embodied the pioneering spirit, public service, and enduring legacy that helped define Oregon s progress from frontier settlement to a vital part of the modern United States. I am offering for sale a historically significant collection of photographs, documents, and related ephemera from three generations of the Clark Family.
