I am happy to be able to count on your friendship and I am convinced that your prayers, which come from such a devoted and pure heart, must bring us happiness. Already, the reaction in France is in our favor, and public opinion is doing justice to the slander of which I have been the victim. Your brother will give you details of the life we lead here. It is very calm, and if it is without joy, it is also without pain other than the memory of times gone by. Believe, my dear nephew, in my true friendship. Napoleon"
