Middletown, Rhode Island: (N.B. Schubart), 1879., 1879. Very good. - An attractive 21 inch high by 28 inch wide real estate survey map of Walter Easton's Farm and the Easton Point Farm in Rhode Island copied by N.B. Schubarth from Samuel Brown's surveys. The map depicts the roads within the property which includes a lot sold to the American physician and abolitionist Dr. William F. Channing, and is framed along the right and bottom by Newport, Rhode Island's Easton Point and its beach along the Atlantic Ocean. The map is attractively titled, with its legend, within the lower right quarter, with additional information of record printed vertically at right. Folded several times with a couple of tiny holes at the junction of the folds. A very attractive real estate survey map. "Received for record in Middletown, Rhode Island, March 28th A.D. 1879, at one o'clock P.M., and recorded May 7th, A.D. 1879, in Land Evidence Book of Middletown, Rhode Island, Number 13, on page 457. Witness, Albert L. Chase, Town Clerk. (Fee 25cts.) (Compared.)" The boundaries are "Purgatory Farm" on the North, the Newport and Middletown Line on the south, "Charity Farm" on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the east. A named property that has been sold is that of Dr. Wm F Channing whose property is bordered by Allston Avenue and Ellery Avenue. William Francis Channing was an American physician, scientist, and abolitionist known for inventing the telegraph fire alarm system and contributing to the development of the telephone. He published books on medicine and electricity, and patented several inventions. He participated in the Underground Railroad as a member of the Latimer Committee and the 1850 Boston Vigilance Committee. In 1869 Dr. Channing was Secretary and Treasurer of Rhode Island Society for the Encouragement of Domestic Industry, and was the Secretary of their Fine Arts committee.
