A lovely copy of this very exclusive boxed Ltd. Ed. production of the Tyndale New Testament. Presented to Spurgeon's College in 1976 by the Philpot family in honour of their grandfather and father, the latter being a trustee of Spurgeon's College. With a manuscript presentation inscription to the front blank leaf. One of only 250 numbered copies (No. 30). In near-fine, almost unread condition. Gilt edges to the text block. These boxed editions are very rare. A simply beautiful edition of this Tyndale New Testament and with superb provenance, an opportunity not to be missed. 'This reprint of William Tyndale's New Testament Of 1526 is issued on the occasion of the 450th. anniversary of the first publication. It has been taken from the only known complete copy of the text (which lacks the title page) in the library of the Baptist College, Bristol. The page size of the original is 5.75'' x 4.00''. This has been slightly increased for ease of reading and the rule surrounding each page has been altered accordingly. Marginalia added by readers have been removed. The original was photographed and printed on specially made antique laid paper'. Contained in the original leather box as produced. Silk lined with a ribbon to lift to bible out of the box. The bible itself bound in black grained morocco with a blind tooled border to the boards and with a large central cross in gilt to the front board. Spine with raised bands and gilt lines. Lettered in gilt to the spine. Boards with ornate inner gilt dentelles. Minor fade mark to the lower margin of the box lid. A simply superb binding for the discerning collector.
