The first published poetry collection of 55 poems by Clark Ashton Smith (1893 1961) the California poet, artist, and later fantasy writer often grouped with H. P. Lovecraft and Lord Dunsany. Written when Smith was only 19 years old. Clark Ashton Smith was part of the California "Bohemian" literary circle centered in Carmel and San Francisco, alongside George Sterling, Ambrose Bierce, Mary Austin, Jack London, James Hopper and Nora May French. Smith became Sterling's protege and Sterling helped him publish "The Star-Treader"
