A rare early 18th-century anatomical and medical treatise by the Roman physician and philosopher Hieronymus Leopold Bacchetoni, notable for its comprehensive coverage of human anatomy and physiology within both theoretical and practical medical frameworks. This printed volume contains detailed anatomical analyses with engraved headpieces, initials, and a striking allegorical engraved frontispiece portrait of Caspar Paris Dominici, to whom the work is dedicated. The text includes multiple demonstration sections (Demonstrationum Anatomicarum), each systematically addressing major organs and body systems with reference to ancient authorities and contemporary discoveries, including Malpighi, Vesalius, and Harvey. Presented in an elegant typographic design with red and black title page and engraved ornamentation, Bacchetoniâ s work exemplifies the intellectual rigor and transitional scientific thinking of early 18th-century continental medicineâ "bridging scholastic anatomy with empirical observation. The decorative paper-covered boards, gilt with a floral block-printed pattern, are a remarkable survival of early decorative paper binding, typical of Central European workshop bindings ca. 1720. The book includes extensive contemporary manuscript notes in Latin and French on the flyleaves, likely by an 18th- or 19th-century medical scholar, with bibliographic cross-references to Waller 581, Blake 26, and Wellcome Ip80, confirming the bookâ s recognized bibliographical lineage in major medical reference catalogs. Condition & Binding: Bound in decorative gilt floral paper boards of the early 18th century, the binding remains original and visually striking though showing wear consistent with age. The spine is exposed with sections of the sewing visible, joints cracked, and edges and corners worn with some paper loss. The covers retain their rich orange and gold patterning, still distinct and attractive despite minor surface abrasions. Internally, the pages are generally clean and crisp with only scattered foxing, occasional marginal toning, and a few small stains typical of period medical texts. The engraved frontispiece and title retain strong impressions. Structural integrity is sound overall, though the volume should be handled with care given the fragility of its contemporary paper-covered binding. Overall- fair.
