Later edition, following the first of 1932, of this guide to Manchuria richly illustrated with hundreds of half-tone photographic illustrations. It was published only two years after the founding of the puppet state of Manchukuo as part of a drive to boost tourism in the area. Following the annexation of Manchuria, the Japanese government tried to encourage their citizens to relocate to the region by producing tourist leaflets, guides, and brochures. The South Manchurian Railway Company took on the brunt of the work and cities like Dalian and Fengtian (now Shenyang) became well-known and popular. Quarto. With 65 plates on mixed colour paper (1 in colour), colour print mounted on yellow paper as issued, folding colour map; title page in brown, text in Japanese and English. Original black cloth, yapp edges, spine lettered in gilt, front cover lettered and decorated in gilt, grey pictorial endpapers. Extremities rubbed, front join worn at foot, light toning and offsetting, colophon foxed, small closed tear to map repaired: a very good copy.
