First edition of this classic adventure taken by Theodore Roosevelt. Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles to the spine and front panel, top edge gilt, tissue-guarded frontispiece. Illustrated from photographs taken by Kermit RooseveltÂand other members ofÂthe expedition, and with 3 maps, including 1 folding in the rear. Presentation copy, warmly inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "To T. H. Powers Farr from his old friend Theodore Roosevelt." In near fine condition with light toning to the spine. One of the more difficult titles in the Roosevelt canon to find signed and inscribed, and with such a warm inscription. Accompanied by a visitor's card of poet and lecturer Corinne Roosevelt Robinson, the younger sister of Theodore RooseveltÂand an aunt of EleanorÂRoosevelt, the type on the card states, "Mrs. Douglas Robinson Nine East Sixty-third Street." Signed and inscribed by Robinson in fountain pen, "For Mr. Farr, with all kind wishes from, C. R. R." Robinson (1861â "1933) was an American poet, author, and public speaker, one of the first women to speak at the Republican National Convention. A prominent figure in early twentieth-century cultural and political life, she combined literary accomplishment with social engagement, publishing several volumes of poetry that reflected themes of patriotism, family, and moral conviction. In fine condition. Roosevelt's popular book Through the Brazilian Wilderness describes his expedition into the Brazilian jungle in 1913 as a member of the Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition co-named after its leader, Brazilian explorer Cândido Rondon. The book describes all of the scientific discovery, scenic tropical vistas and exotic flora, fauna and wild life experienced on the expedition, as well as the exciting human dramas which occurred during the expedition.
