Each illustration has a tissue overlaw with a printed caption (NB: The list of illustrations describes 24 plates; the frontispiece is not mentioned). Nielsen also provided about two dozen black-and-white illustrations and decorative tailpieces at the end of some chapters. Nielsen (1886?1957) was born in Denmark. He is best known for his work, like this, in England and then the United States. He worked for the Walt Disney Company on the animated films Fantasia, The Little Mermaid, and Sleeping Beauty. 207, [1: blank] pages, plus 26 inserted leaves, including a black-and-white title page and the 25 color plates. First edition (first printing; with 25 tipped-in color plates; penultimate page with "Engraved and Printed by HENRY STONE & SON, lTD., BANBURY / Printed in Great Britain"). This copy is clean internally and has been rebound in dark blue-black morocco with dark marbled endpapers. The cover is decorated with a thin gilt rule border. The spine is in six compartments with false raised bands and gilt stamping in each. All edges are gilt. The binding is not signed. The book is virtually fine; there is light scuffing on the bottom edge.
