A fine Parisian edition of Desbillons' celebrated Fabulae Aesopiae, enriched with over 170 new fables. Printed by the Barbou press, renowned for elegant Latin editions for Jesuit colleges. This copy carries extraordinary provenance: the front pastedown bears the autograph of Luke Howard (1772-1864), the British meteorologist revered as the Father of Meteorology for his pioneering cloud classification system. Beneath his signature appears "Ackworth, 1829", connecting this volume directly to Howard's period of scientific observation in Yorkshire. The printed bookplate of Joseph Fry lies beneath, struck through by Howard's hand, possibly marking a transfer of ownership between prominent Quaker families. The Fry-Howard connection was later reinforced by marriage within their descendants. A rare association copy uniting classical pedagogy, Enlightenment natural philosophy, and Quaker intellectual history. Provenance: Luke Howard, signed and dated "Ackworth, 1829"; Joseph Fry bookplate (struck through).
