Jacket Condition: Very Good ++. A first edition set comprising: The Fellowship of the Ring, 1961 (11th impression); The Two Towers, 1962 (9th impression); The Return of the King, 1961 (8th impression), all housed in a 6th state publishers slipcase (available 1961-4), each volume with unclipped dust jacket and folding map at the rear. The books are in excellent condition and are clean internally, noting a similar inscription in each volume. The cloth on each is clean and fresh, the gilt titles bright and clear. The bindings are firm and square, the colour wash on the top edges is deep and fresh and the fore & bottom edges are pristine. All fore edge corners are firm, sharp and square and there are no signs of shelf wear. The dust jackets have a few spots and marks to the spine - more so to The Fellowship of the Ring as it has a dark surface mark towards the bottom and there is a similar mark around the thumb cut-out on the front of the slipcase. As a set that appears to have been bought new together, the spines are uniformly, lightly toned though the titles remain bright and clear. The front and rear panels are generally very clean and fresh. The dust jackets have no tears, tape or loss. The slipcase has splits in the paper cover at some parts of the joints, manly those at the bottom joint and back right joint but is still very firm and sound - it has performed admirably in protecting the books its contents.
