Octavo. xi, 178 [2]pp. Rebacked blue-green luxury leather with gilt illustrations, lettering and ruling on cover, gilt lettering and ruling on spine. Top edge gilt. Silk silver ribbon marker. Pink illustrated endpapers and b/w frontispiece drawings in lithography. It was first published in 1928 and originally bound in special deluxe leather with a center illustration only. The complete run bound in leather was 5000. Our copy was bound by Bayntun in blue-green textured leather with four additional illustrations placed into all four corners of front cover. Bayntun reused these images in many subsequent editions with variant leather bindings. Printed by Jarrold and Sons, Norwich. It is beautifully illustrated with drawings by E. H. Shepard, lithographically rendered. Light wear along edges of original leather and light sunning along edges near spine, and lightly rubbed. Gilt top edge with very light blemishes. Pages 61/62 with two inch closed tear in lower third of page; no loss of lettering.
