Bulino su matrice di rame, impresso su carta vergellata priva di filigrana e databile alla metà del sec. XVI. Monogramma e data su tavoletta appesa ad un palo in alto sinistra. Stato unico, sesta variante su sette (Meder 2 endash; f/g). Rifilata lungo il bordolinea, quasi sempre presente o con piccolissimo margine come sul lato sinistro. Esemplare in discreto stato di conservazione, non molto contrastato, alcuni graffi in lastra; tracce di collatura al verso. TIETZE 250 - sebbene chiaramente progettata con un unico punto di fuga, lersquo;occhio dellersquo;osservatore è rallentato dalla sovrabbondanza di dettagli che derivano dal seguire le linee prospettiche. Il risultato è unersquo;atmosfera di movimento nella quiete. La scena non è tanto elsquo;presentataersquo; allersquo;osservatore, quanto piuttosto unersquo;opportunità per elsquo;origliareersquo; ciò che sta accadendo. In questo senso, questa incisione è simile a San Girolamo nel suo studio, che rappresenta una soluzione più matura. Engraving on laid paper without watermark, datable to the mid-16th century. Monogram and date in tablet hanging from a pole at the top left. Meder 2 f/g. Trimmed along borderline, almost always present or with very narrow margin like on left side. Fair condition, with diminished contrast, several scratches on platemark; traces of former mounting eldquo;on versoerdquo; TIETZE 250 - although clearly designed with a single vanishing point, the eye of the beholder is retarded by the overabundance of detail from following the lines of perspective. The result is a mood of movement in quietude. The scene is not so much elsquo;presentedersquo; to the observer, as it is an opportunity to elsquo;eavesdropersquo; on what is happening. In this respect this engraving is akin to St. Jerome in his Study which represents a more mature solution.
