This copy of Benjamin Franklin s Works (Dublin: Wogan, Byrne, Moore & Jones, 1793) Early Dublin edition: Among the first printings of Franklin s collected works, issued only three years after his death, and one of the earliest European attempts to preserve his autobiography and essays. Exceptional chain of provenance spanning more than a century, with ownership inscriptions linking it to notable American figures. James Kent (1763 1847) At the top right of the title page is the signature of "James Kent." Kent, a contemporary of Franklin, Hamilton, and Marshall, was one of the most influential jurists in American history, serving as Chancellor of New York and later as Chief Justice of the New York Supreme Court. He is best remembered for his monumental Commentaries on American Law (1826 1830), which became a cornerstone of American legal education and influenced jurisprudence for generations. Samuel P. Elder (1850 1918) Winchester, Massachusetts.
