In original 1/4 blue cloth over brown cloth covered boards with gold lettering and design work on the spine and an embossed front cover. Octavo, 547 pages + Table of Contents & Index. Included is a bill of sale for the book from a Los Angeles bookstore in 2019 for $1,100. MacArthur: His Rendezvous with History, covers the years 1941 to 1951 in the legendary career of General Douglas MacArthur, who was Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in the South Pacific and accepted Japan's surrender. The author, Major General Courtney Whitney, received a law degree from George Washington University, after which he went into private practice in Manila. He joined MacArthur's WWII staff, directing MacArthur's guerrilla army in the Philippines, and served as a senior official during the occupation of Japan. Condition info: The book is in NEAR FINE vintage condition. Colorful boards, firm hinges and joints, minimal rubbing. Just some dust jacket paper transferring along bottom of spine and some faint, partially erased pencil writing on FFEP. Pages are clean and unmarked. The price clipped dust jacket is in Good+ to Very Good- condition - colorful and bright, some edge wear creasing and a few tears. Some dust soiling to rear panel and blind side of jacket shows a large water dampening stain which shows through in a few spots on the front of the jacket.
