FIRST EDITIONS WITH THESE INTRODUCTIONS, first and penultimate volumes with portrait frontispieces, fourth volume with final gathering on heavily browned paperstock, one or two spots to prelims, pp. xv, 272; xv, 400; xv, 368; xiv, 394, xiv, 274; xiv, 306, foolscap 8vo, original green cloth, most volumes with lettering in gilt to backstrips and upper boards, vol. 5 with lettering in blue to backstrip only, gentle rubbing at extremities, one or two corners a little knocked, the green top edges now mostly faded, a few light spots to edges and endpapers, third volume with bookplate to front pastedown, dustjackets to all, a little sunned, mostly restricted to backstrip panels, these with some faint waterspots also, a little chipping to extremities, a very good set. An appealing set of Austen's novels, each with a new Introduction by a contemporary novelist: Daphne du Maurier, Elizabeth Bowen, Monica Dickens, Angela Thirkell, Ann Bridge, and Naomi Royde-Smith. Uncommon as a set in this condition.
