Map. Engraving with original color outline. Image measures 7.75" x 9.75". Large early map of the United States showing the States and territories. The northwestern Midwest region is labeled as Indian Territory, with many tribes indicated, as well as in Wisconsin Territory and Oregon Territory. The southwest and California are part of Mexico, as is Texas - although labeled separately with Houston shown as its capital, referencing the Republic of Texas which had declared itself a sovereign nation at the time of this map's publication. Still disputed and unrecognized by Mexico, the republic lacks a western boundary line. Rivers, cities, and towns are labeled. The Pacific Northwest border dispute is shown as the border extends beyond the 49th parallel. In very good condition, with small chips and tears at margins. Archival tape repair to center and reinforcement along centerfold. Small manuscript note in Georgia. T.G. Bradford (1802-1887) was a Boston based publisher. He worked as assistant editor of the American Encyclopedia before entering the field of map making.
