Late 19th-century Indo-Persian miniature showing Krishna and Radha seated together under a large tree, attended by three gopis offering music and fans. The composition includes a Persian poetic couplet above: 'The world recalls the time and rule of the heart; every act is the remembrance of the beloved. The work of truth lies in patience and endurance; the answer to love none else can give.' This philosophical verse mirrors the spiritual and romantic mood of the scene. The reverse contains Persian prose describing moral and Sufi reflections on love, patience, and illusion-written in fine Nastaliq script on handmade Indian paper. Together, image and text express the syncretic blend of Hindu Bhakti and Persian Sufi traditions. TRANSLATION / ANALYSIS (REVERSE) Partial English translation of visible Persian lines: 1. When man follows desire, he forgets the command of truth. 2. The wise keep their hearts pure from the dust of the world. 3. Whoever drinks the wine of love must also taste the pain of separation. 4. Patience is the garment of lovers; without it, their heart is naked. 5. The world deceives by beauty, yet the soul seeks the eternal garden. 6. He who recalls the name of the beloved finds comfort even in hardship. 7. Thus was written by the servant of love, in the season of longing. The reverse manuscript and front painting form an aesthetic and spiritual unity characteristic of the Indo-Persian Mughal revival period. CONCLUSION An exceptional Indo-Persian miniature on reused Persian manuscript paper, dating to circa 1875-1885 CE. Combining devotional Hindu iconography and Persian Sufi literature, the work demonstrates the cultural dialogue between Bhakti and Sufism in late 19th-century North India. A well-preserved and historically important example suitable for scholarly or collector acquisition.
