Signed by Lewis on the title page. This book has excellent provenance. We purchased this book from ABAA book seller Jim Strawn (Smythe Books) who purchased it from Aidan Mackey. Mackey was a founding member of the Chesterton Society and a leading Chesterton scholar. Only three people have ever received the Clyde S. Kilby lifetime achievement award presented by the Marion E. Wade Center and Mackey is one of those three. The other two are Walter Hooper and Barbara Reynolds. Mackey was a rare book dealer specializing in G. K. Chesterton, C. S. Lewis, George MacDonald, Charles Williams, Hilaire Belloc, and Dorothy L. Sayers. Laid in is a business card for Mackey - post card sized. The book is a classic analysis of the four loves: affection, friendship, eros, and charity.Gray cloth boards with red text on the spine. 160 pp. The dust wrapper has four quadrants for the four loves with a large oval overlaying the center of the book. Text in black. The book is near fine. The first and last end sheets have a faint shadow due acidic dust wrapper. No writing in the book and solid, firm binding. The price clipped dust wrapper is also near fine with a small amount of edge wear at the head and the heal. A marvelous copy, signed.Shelley and Son Books specializes in C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien & the Inklings. Full refund if not satisfied.
