Contemporary full green morocco, upper cover and spine lettered in gilt, back cover stamped with the shahada (Islamic declaration of faith) in Arabic calligraphy mirroring the Saudi Arabian flag, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. The author's page proofs, presentation copy, inscribed on the half-title: "These page-proofs of my forthcoming book are presented to my beloved friend / Mitchel E. Hadad / George Kheirallah / Jan. 1st 1952." Hadad (d. 1981) immigrated from Syria in 1904; he was vice president of the Collegiate Manufacturing Company and active in Middle Eastern affairs. He founded the Salaam Club of New York to aid the Lebanese-Syrian business community. In 1960, he was awarded the Syrian Government's highest civilian honour for his efforts toward United States-Middle East cooperation. Some very minimal shelfwear to extremities, one small dent to upper cover, generally an excellent copy. The published edition from the University of New Mexico Press was issued in 1952. A handsomely bound and illustrated biography of King Abdulaziz Ibn Saud and description of the modern Saudi state, by the editor of The Arab World Magazine. Kheirallah's work is uncommon in the jacket. The surgeon George Ibrahim Kheirallah (1879-1959) was a close friend of King Saud, and instrumental in establishing the Arabian-American Oil Co. The work contains numerous images of early Saudi Arabia and its royal family, including King Saud, Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Mansour bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The photographs allow an insight into everyday life, including a street scene in Jeddah, children outside their schoolhouse, camel caravans, and a carpenter constructing a tool shack for the Arabian American Oil Company. The surgeon George Ibrahim Kheirallah (1879-1959) was a close friend of King Saud, and instrumental in establishing the Arabian-American Oil Co.
