Limited to just seventy copies total, on offer is one of the twenty deluxe copies. This deluxe edition includes: 1. The Ethics of Ambiguity, translated by Bernard Frechtman, bound in a hardcover Bradel binding, handmade paper boards, a vellum paper spine, and silk headbands. 102 pages printed on a manually-operated Vandercook Universal I, and manually bound. Includes twelve pieces of artwork by the pseudonymous artist CONTENT IS USING ME. Collectors had the opportunity to select artwork from three portfolios of three different artists (selections were evenly split across all three). 2. The Introduction, by Jacob Roundtree, in paper wrappers. 12 pages, plus a publisher's note which briefly describes the publisher's introduction to the work, and the significant impact his relationship with the Introducer had on his appreciation of it. A touching testament to the impact educators have on the lives of their students. 3. A substantial portfolio of artwork, accompanied by a four-page essay. The essay, authored by the Publisher, reflects on the feedback and reactions of collectors as they grappled with which artist and artwork to include. It also provides an insightful analysis of each of the three artists' works, drawing comparisons and contrasts. To truly appreciate this work, the essay is required reading. The portfolio of artwork includes all twenty illusrtrations by the three artists (60 pieces of artwork in total): i) Vincent Van Villain - produced by letterpress from magnesium plates. These pieces lent themselves to letterpress printing surprisingly well, according to the Publisher. ii) Ester Kärkkäinen - produced by giclée, a very specialized type of inkjet printing that uses a dozen or more inks, and produces colour-accurate artwork. It requires specialized papers, and digital files fine-tuned to both the papers and particular inks being used. The Publisher spent weeks learning how to use the specialized printers in order to reproduce the artwork. ii) CONTENT IS USING ME - produced by giclée. 4. A chemise, comfortably securing the three above items. 5. A slipcase. The Ethics of Ambiguity is Simone de Beauvoir's groundbreaking exploration of existentialist ethics - a lucid, impassioned argument for freedom, responsibility, and the moral weight of human choice. Rejecting absolute moral systems, Beauvoir contends that true ethics arise from our shared condition of ambiguity: the tension between our individual freedom and the existence of others. Written with philosophical rigour and literary grace, it remains one of the most compelling statements on what it means to live authentically in an uncertain world. Every aspect of this edition, which took four years to complete, has been conceived with uncommon care. It invites contemplation not only of Beauvoir's words, but of the dialogue between text, art, and form - a meditation on freedom made tangible through craft. The union of philosophical depth and visual interpretation makes it as thought-provoking to hold as it is to read. Among the most expressive and conceptually rich works produced by No Reply Press, it stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of ideas made physical.
