Limited edition, No. 45 of 325 copies. Dark blue and golden maize colored cloth binding in an abstract 'sail' pattern on both covers, gilt ruling and titles on spine, top edge gilt, other edges uncut. Matching slipcase in blue and maize cloth with identical 'sail' pattern to the boards. Dark tan leather spine and top & bottom panels on slipcase, with same tan leather lining the opening edges of the slipcase. Letterpress printed on Van Gelder paper. Illustrated with five wood engravings by Robert Gibbings. Book is protected with an archival clear Grafix Dura Lar dust wrapper._____CONDITION: Strong NF/fine. No markings or ex-libris. Trivial intermittent rubbing to the maize-colored binding edges at top and bottom of covers near spine. Very light, even toning at page edges, normal for this paper and age of book. Slipcase in fine condition with a few very minor areas of darkening in the leather strips due to reaction from binder's glue. An exceptional copy. _____DISCUSSION: This is one of several historical novels issued by the Golden Cockerel Press taken from the original manuscripts and previously unpublished. The book is divided into two parts: Part One is James Morrison's account of the mutiny on the Bounty and its aftermath and Part Two is a description of the Island of Tahiti and its natives. Morrison's accounts are quite detailed and his descriptions of the island's flora and fauna, animals and the Tahitians and their customs in the late 18th century is of considerable historical interest.
